The Climate Resilience Research Center (CRRC), in partnership with FutureWater and Practica, has officially launched the Smart Sprayer project in Putalibazar and Bheerkot municipalities of Syangja District to address dry-season water scarcity faced by smallholder farmers. The Smart Sprayer system combines a gravity-fed, low-pressure irrigation device with a mobile-based Smart Irrigation Tool that provides crop-specific watering advice via SMS or WhatsApp. Designed for Nepal’s mid-hill terrain, the system helps farmers improve water efficiency, grow high-value crops during the dry season, and strengthen climate resilience.
The kickoff meeting in Bheerkot took place on August 07, 2025 at municipality hall of Bheerkot while the meeting in Putalibazar was conducted on August 10, 2025 at the premises of putalibazar municipality. The kickoff program was successfully conducted under the chairmanship of CRRC President, Mr. Shankar Prasad Lamichhane, in both municipalities. The Mayor of Putalibazar, Mr. Tulsi Ram Regmi, and the Mayor of Bheerkot, Mr. Govinda Kumar Karmacharya, served as the chief guests at the respective kickoff events.

During the kickoff meetings, the CRRC team presented a detailed overview of the project activities to the Putalibazar and Bheerkot municipalities and the Agricultural Knowledge Center (AKC) Syangja. The project’s objectives, implementation plan, and key technical requirements—including water source, water quantity, pressure head, field conditions, and crop suitability—were discussed in detail. Both the municipalities and AKC reviewed these requirements and expressed their support by providing a preliminary list of potential farmers, plots, and suitable crops for project implementation.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Mayor of Putalibazar Municipality, Mr Tusliram Regmi, expressed his appreciation for the technology, stating that it seems highly effective and innovative. He emphasized that, once fully implemented, the outcomes would be even more impactful. He further highlighted that this technology would significantly support farmers engaged in agricultural activities within the municipality by improving productivity and efficiency. The Mayor of Bheerkot Municipality, Mr. Govinda Kumar Karmacharya, also welcomed the initiative, highlighting the municipality’s ongoing water scarcity challenges. He emphasized that, if successful, the technology could help farmers produce more with less water, contributing to both improved livelihoods and sustainable water conservation.

Both kickoff programs were successfully conducted with the participation of the ward chair-persons of municipalities, representatives from the Agriculture Knowledge Center, other members and agricultural technical staff from the municipalities, demonstrating strong local government engagement and support. Following the meetings, both the municipalities and the AKC reaffirmed their commitment to support CRRC and its international partners through project implementation, technical guidance, and close coordination, and expressed strong interest in the outcomes of the Smart Sprayer feasibility phase.
