CRRC joined a one-day Provincial Consultation Workshop in Biratnagar on the National Small Irrigation Programme (N-SIP). The workshop reviewed the programme’s achievements to date and discussed plans for its next phase. Participants included representatives from federal, provincial, and local government, along with development partners, technical experts, water user associations, farmers, and private sector representatives.

CRRC contributed to the discussions, sharing its experience working on climate-resilient irrigation. Discussions pointed to small irrigation systems as a major factor behind farmers’ ability to cultivate land throughout the year, resulting in stronger harvests, higher household incomes, and expanded employment opportunities in rural areas.

The workshop also highlighted the programme’s work constructing and rehabilitating community irrigation systems and strengthening the capacity of Water Users’ Associations, achieved through coordination between government, partners, and local communities.

For CRRC, the workshop was a valuable opportunity to engage with others working on irrigation, and connects closely with its own initiatives, including the Smart Sprayer project for terrace farming communities in Syangja. CRRC looks forward to continued collaboration with N-SIP going forward.
